Pryamid tomb in Liverpool
Hello , Just a few lines to show a couple of photos I took a few years ago about a gambler who was buried sitting at a table with a winning poker hand, to prevent the Devil taking his soul, which the gambler had gambled and lost. I hope I have uploaded them properly ! my computer skills are not too good , but learning every day !! Cheers Neale http://i1100.photobucket.com/albums/g401/yooser1/LiverpoolRodneyStreet01.jpg |

Don't really understand what's going on there, Neale - it just looks like a pyramid tomb. Mind you, I can only see the one photo there - is there a link to more? |

Re: Pryamid tomb in Liverpool
Hello Steve, Yes, there was another photo ( 02 ) which I didn't upload properly !! The main reason for the interest is the story behind the tomb, which is in the graveyard of the derelict St.Andrews church -- which closed in 1974 - in Rodney Street ,which is Liverpool's Harley Street. The person buried there is said to sitting at a table in the tomb with a winning poker hand, he was a wealthy Victorian railway engineer William McKenzie who was also a compulsive gambler. When he lost his soul to the Devil in a game of poker the Devil said he would take his soul when he was buried ,so McKenzie was entombed above ground to prevent the devil taking his soul !! There are , of course, many different versions of this legend, but many people have seen his ghost, Rodney Street is one of the most haunted streets in England. This is the only pyramid in a graveyard in England, to the best of my knowledge.I have other photos but can't remember where they are !! You can't go into the graveyard as it is fenced off due to the derelict church , which is a shame. All the best, Neale |
