A crop circle
My own avatar as a (kind of) crop circle.
Inspired by Steve's chapter about perspective in his book How to cheat in Photoshop CS5. I have lots of troubles with this chapter. I do not always know how to set my perspective lines...

Re: A crop circle
Nice, but somehow to me, it looks raised, rather than sunken.

Re: A crop circle
Hi Sjef
I think it does look sunken, given that the depth is at the rear of the segments and this is nicely achieved. Regarding perspective, I think the clue is in the tractor lines within the field. There is marginal difference in the width of the parallels at the bottom of the image compared with the top right by the road. Your perspective suggests that we are looking from a much lower angle and my view is that if you made the shape more towards the square, you'd be closer to realism. I would make the tractor tracks slightly less pronounced within the area of the shape, as the flattened straw would hide the lines.

Hope this helps.

Nick

Re: A crop circle
Thank you both for your reply.
I have to admit my crop circle isn't 100% what it should be although it look better at 1600 x 1200 px. It was a kind of tryout and I hoped for criticism about the perpective of the figure. I think you're both right, particularly about the perspective, which I find rather difficult to handle. Shortly, I got a lot to learn!
Here's the original file: a crop cirkel 'Dreamcatcher' in Avebury (1994).
