Photomontange?
I have visited a small photography exhibition and when I saw this photograph I was 100% sure it is photo-montage but when I read the text below I was a little bit surprised. What is your opinion, really did they draw it by a lamp? I cant believe because the sign 400 is too much bigger for me in that composition. On the other hand the reflections are really convincing .... . What do you think? _________________ For me the creative process is more one of discovery than creation. - James Lee Burke |

It can't have been done with a flashlight - because where would the person holding the flashlight be standing? And why don't they appear in the shot? Has to be a montage, I don't think it's possible any other way. |

I agree in where would the person be, but I took this photo a few years ago, very blurred, but we did it with a sparkler and the exposure time at 8 secs. Would have tried to get it clearer, but ran out of sparklers! ![]() |

Disregarding that the reflection would place the person with the torch in the water and probably 200 feet tall, I think it is entirely possible that someone could have done this and not appeared in the photo due to them constantly moving and the long exposure. However, it doesn't look like a long exposure to me though. The water would look smoother than it does. You can clearly see the ripples. With an exposure long enough to not show the torch holder the ripples would be blended and no longer discernible. |

Agreeing with your comments. Just to add some thoughts, maybe right maybe not. Normally you get aerial perspective, ok clear night, but should have some. I'm a bit confused where the image was created, as you've stated before. The only solution I can see is a wired steel cage in the lake., but err would see some evidence. Now what really disturbs me is the angle of incidence of the reflection. Why is it starting at far horizon. It should be equal and opposite, just like a flat horizontal mirror in the simple case. Further, if above above comment correct, should we not see reflected inverse image going backwards with the waves, and again another inverted reverse image, as its drawn in the middle of the lake so has two sides? I'm not sure about this, but inconsistency. And agree with comments on water reflections and waves, but my camera really has a good go with high ISO and Image Stabilizer. Conclusion: Improbable and I don't see the point of doing this, but always open for discussion. |

Agree with all the comments and you'll notice also there is a shadow around the lamplight, which indicates that rather than using a blending mode, there is a pretty naff attempt at masking the numbers. Where there is no shadow, the lamp is less distinct, i.e. painted out. I cannot see why someone went to so much trouble to produce this and then pretend it's real. |
