New and old photos
I have recently found an old box brownie photo taken about 1954 of myself , younger brother and our mum at a nearby place called Raby on The Wirral , Cheshire.
I have recently taken a photo of approximately the same spot to show the pond has 'vanished' , but really not much else has changed , thank goodness !
Not sure if both have loaded !!

I take that back! I added a .jpg extension onto the file name and it opened.

A larger version of the 1954 version would be interesting.

Hello GKB,
I ' m not sure how to load a larger version of the 1954 photo , the original is very small and very faded/scratched/black spots etc etc. I'll dig it out again when I find the very secure place I have put it !!! Yet another ' senior moment '.
All the best, Neale

That's just what Photoshop was invented for!

I've got one of those secure places, too! It's on top the thingy just behind the errrmmm where I keep the wotsits. I keep lots of things there and I know that they are totally secure

I've edited the file names and posts so the images show up. Neale, just make sure your images have the .jpg suffix and they should show up fine.

Very interesting. Perhaps you should stand closer to the house to take the newer shot - everything apart from the house is obscured by the trees!

Hello Steve,
I was going to take a photo from a different position today, but snow has stopped play ! If it is not too bad this weekend then I will take a few photos.

Re: New and old photos
Neale, I really like the old image.

Once the weather is a bit better and you have taken another shot from closer to the house it would make an interesting challenge to align the images over each other and try and create a mixed montage using elements from each (adding colour to the B&W) and/or (B&Wing) the modern one.

If you happen to catch a car or modern tractor in the image it would add even more interest to the montage.

Thanks for sharing the images.
Vern

Hello Vern,
That's a good idea about trying to align the new and photos , I will take the new photo as soon as is possible, and try to get the positioning correct.
Cheers Neale

Re: New and old photos
Hi Neale,

As long as you are taking the new photo from approximately the same position and angle as the old one the you can use the Auto-align layers function in Photoshop.

It would then be a case of adding a mask and selectively painting transparency to allow parts of one image to "grin" through into the other to form the composite.

Cheers
Vern

Hello Steve, At last the snow has gone and has given us floods instead !!
I've taken another photo from the other-side of the road from the original. The pond has appeared for the first time in many years !
All the best,Neale

Hello Vern,
I have taken another photo which is a bit closer and without the leaves on the trees means you can see more of the pond which has re-appeared due to the flooding !!
All the best,Neale

That's better! Have to say, the house was in much better condition in 1954.

New and old photos
Hello, I have found the original camera that my Dad used to take the original photo, I thought the camera used was a box Brownie, but the camera used was the Ye Olde camera. The camera is the one my Dad gave to me many moons ago and was used a great deal by my wife and myself. It brings back many happy memories and it taught me a lot about thinking about a photo before taking it !! I now tend to be one of the ' scatter gun ' type of person with the digital camera .
Cheers , Neale.
