Tall ships
I was at the 3D Print Show in London yesterday, and afterwards I was at the awards ceremony outside when Tower Bridge opened and a couple of tall ships came sailing through.

As you know, I'm really not a photographer, but I was pleased with this shot.

Re: Tall ships
Great to see such activity on the Thames and the bridge open. My Granddad worked for the Port of London Authority and I remember him taking us to see Tower Bridge for the first time and when it opened - wow. We then went on a boat trip around the docks, at a time when London was a major port back in the 60's. Wonderful memories.

Lovely shot Steve. Perhaps a tighter crop to bring the ship onto the right third - just an observation

You're right of course, but I wanted to get HMS Belfast fully in there as a counterpoint to the vintage ship. I did try taking out the boat in the foreground, but the composition seemed worse without it.

Normally of course I'd never put anything right in the middle like that!

Re: Tall ships
Thanks Steve and quite understand. The image is well balanced anyway and it works.

I copied the image and played around with the colour in PS. Using Curves to pull down the blue and push up the red channels created a much warmer scene. I also darkened the sky slightly by creating a selection in Quick Mask and then applied a curves adjustment with the blend set to luminosity. I didn't save the file, but though you may wish to experiment.

Very nice shot, Steve. It must have been a great sight.

I also had a go at reducing the blue and tweaking the photo a little - but I didn't save the image either!

Re: Tall ships
It was very much an evening view, and I rather like the blue tint - it contrasts with the yellow of the lights. But feel free to tinker!

The blue hour in photography is my favourite time. It creates a lovely atmosphere. Nicely taken Steve.

I'm with Anna about the blue. What a great shot. Sorry I've been so tired lately that I didn't post this sooner.
