Weather Report
I noticed that in the "About this section" topic Steve suggests we talk about the weather. However, since there wasn't a topic dedicated to weather, people almost immediately stopped talking about it. I'd like to hear about what sort of weather you are experiencing and I will tell you what is going on hear in California.

Re: Weather Report
Hi srawland,
In the Netherlands we have had very warm weather for the time of the year. At this moment it is about 17 degrees Celsius.Earlier it was 30 degrees Celsius. Some strong winds about 6 beaufort and a little rain ones in a while.
I hope this helps.

Re: Weather Report
We are in the third year of a drought here in California. However, there is great hope that it will end this year. I for one, am tired of showering with one foot in a bucket to catch water to use for my plants. The reason for hope that the temperature of the Pacific ocean right now is well above average. It is currently 66F (18.9C) off Ocean Beach in San Francisco. To give you an idea just how above average this is from 1981 to 2005 the average ocean temperature for this time of year was only 58F (15C) the range for those years was 56F-63F (13.3C-17.2C) When the ocean temperature is high we usually receive more rain in the winter. However, because the water is so warm it has not been cooling off at night, and it has been 30F (18.9C) warmer than usual this time of year for the last two weeks. Last week it was 102F (38.9C) when I was walking around outside for my job with the County. The average for this time of year is usually 75F (23.9C) This week is supposed to be substantially cooler with it only being 10F (5.5C) above average. Right now as I am typing this it is gloriously foggy outside and a mere 66F (18.9C). I'm going out shopping now before the fog burns off and it gets hot again.

Re: Weather Report
Our seawater in the Noordzee is about 10 degrees Celsius. Usualy we have lots of rain in Europe. Cities are floaded and some people have lost there lives. But as we all know, the sun is growing bigger over a decade, so the temperture on earth will rise in the future. That brings us more water and we live already beneath the sea level. But we will survive.

Hi Hendrik,

Welcome to the forum. My name is actually Sara, but when I joined I didn't know what sort of people might be here so I thought I'd be a little more anonymous. I look forward to seeing some of your Photoshop work.

Hi Sara,
I have to disapoint you, but I have done photoshop for a very long time. but the last couple of years I suffer a eye sickness that makes it impossible to do the job. Even writing to you is a tremendous job to get this done. B.W. I am 84 years and still like to hear about photoshop that is read to me. I have all three books fron Chaplin and I love to hear that out. So I must go end as it is very tired for me.
Thank you for answering me. Have a nice day ahead of you as we are going to bed.
William.

Re: Weather Report
I woke up to glorious, glorious rain today. It's not enough to break the drought, but hopefully there will be more to come.

Re: Weather Report
After weeks of above average temperatures we are finally getting some normal weather for this time of year. And it might even rain. We are in a serious drought here. Last week I happened to be next to the reservoir that supplies a major portion of water here. The arrow on the left is pointing out a bridge that is normally over water, but as you can see is now no where near the water's edge. The arrow on the right is pointing to the end of the main boat launch.

Re: Weather Report
We did get some rain on Wednesday morning, however, it was only enough to thoroughly adhere the dust to the car. It is supposed to rain again tonight.

Re: Weather Report
Unfortunately, it did not rain Friday night. The cold front fell apart and the rain dissipated before it got here. Thursday I happened to be in an industrial section that abuts Los Gatos Creek County park. Years ago when I lived in the area, I used to visit this park all the time. On the other side of the lake is a great bike path that runs all the way to San Jose. I took this picture of what is left of the lake now. The red line is where the water line is normally. The black birds in the water are common coots, also known as marsh hens.

Re: Weather Report
Monday it rained - technically. I was working in Los Gatos, CA. When I arrived it was still sunny with puffy white clouds streaming over the Santa Cruz Mountains. Barely a half hour into my shift and the clouds had turned grey and began backing up on one another like cars in rush hour traffic. I went in to one office building to check the business licenses and when I got to the third floor I looked out the window. It had a terrific view of Blackberry hill and I could see the line of precipitation making it's way down the mountain. By the time I finished the building a light mist was settling outside. It wasn't quite a drizzle, but I had brought a plastic bag with me just in case so my binder wouldn't get wet. I didn't even have a jacket, but it wasn't really coming down hard enough to warrant it. I was out walking around for 3 hours and my hair was barely damp.

Tuesday through Thursday it was clear and mild with temperatures in the mid 70's F ( ~24C). Today was warmer and in the afternoon a sea breeze ruffled the papers in my binder. It's unusual for a sea breeze to make it into Los Gatos, as the town is nestled in a valley in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Earlier that day I had to stop by a Company called Cryptic, Inc. Many companies around here now don't have receptionists at their front doors. Instead they have a phone and you are to dial to see someone. Every other time I have had to do this, the door to the interior would eventually open and I would speak to someone. This time I only talked on the phone. Cryptic indeed.

Re: Weather Report
RAIN!

The local news had been predicting rain all week, but since the last two "storms" fizzled I was taking a wait-and-see attitude. This morning when I turned on the news I was greeted by a mottled green blob of a radar screen just about to cross over where I live. I have a garden shed with a leaky roof and I had bought a new tarp to put over it, but had not done so. When I pulled off the old tarp it was just starting to drizzle. By the time I had finished putting on the new one it was raining in earnest. I got soaking wet. Oh, what a wonderful feeling!

Unfortunately, it didn't ran for very long. We only got 0.2 inches (~5mm), but it was great while it lasted. We don't have another chance for rain until next week. I so hope we do get rain but not until the evening when I've gone to bed. I do my laundry on Saturdays and I will have one of my favorite simple pleasures: clean sheets. I also love to lie in bed and listen to the sound of the rain coming down. Having both clean sheet and rain to listen to is utter bliss for me.

Re: Weather Report
The rain came in on Friday instead of Saturday. Friday morning I was treated to a spectacular sunrise as I drove into work. I got in a little early because it was supposed to pour right around noon and I wanted to be at least close to finishing my surveys for the day. It started drizzling almost from the time I arrived in Los Gatos, but didn't do much more than that until I was almost finished. The rain had started coming down a little harder when I got back to my car, but the heavens didn't open up until just before I got on the highway. At that point traffic crawled along, but I didn't mind because I was dry.

Saturday had a few rain showers in the morning but then turned clear, cold and windy. I didn't get to listen to the rain last night but at least I had clean sheets.

Re: Weather Report
Over the last three weeks we've had a lot of rain here in California. Where I live it we are now 240% above the average rainfall for this time of year. However, since we were in a historic drought, we are still far behind. The reservoirs are still only 30% or less of capacity. Today it is cloudy, but dry and I rode my bicycle into work for the first time in two weeks. I'm not complaining about the weather. We need more rain here and besides, I live in an area that has some of the best weather in the world.

Re: Weather Report
It's 39F (~4C) and very windy at Moffett Federal Airbase/NASA Ames Research Center which I ride right past, if I were to ride my bike into work. I am wimping out and driving in this morning.

Taken on a warmer day riding my bike towards Moffett/NASA Ames

Happy New Year!
