For GORDON ..... and hopefully others will enjoy ......

Hi Gordon

I have been going through some old stuff and thought this might appeal to you. It was shot in the mid seventies. Shot on 35mm. Its an old print that was transferred to U-Matic ¾" video many years later. So it has some scratching and dirt etc.

It was done for us by the French airforce who treated it as a training exercise.

It's done completely for real! One attempt only ..... no second chances! If I remember correctly we used seven cameras. One fixed in the van, two in helicopters one in the plane and four on the ground.

No trickery was involved except the very end shot which we shot on a 60ft square model in Shepperton Studios. We put the camera up in the studio roof hung on elastics from an improvised slider on a scaffold tube so it could move. The 'clouds' were created live with a smoke machine and the van was moved by a magnet under the set. Soft lit from above through a massive silk diffusion cloth.

Try as I may I cannot get the link to go live so you will need to right click and open it or drag it into your browser.

Hope it amuses you. It was certainly fun to do!

Thanks for that David; most impressive as it was only one take. I'm not too sure how the suspension on the van fared after that touchdown ... it was reminiscent of some of my landings in the Piper Cub

To get the link to work you just have to knock the 's' off 'https'. I've done it for you.

Suspension was definitely f***** (compromised).

I tried that on the link myself (several times) and it wouldn't work. odd.

Happy Christmas Gordon.
