Something for David, as well as AMAZING images for everyone
The first five are for David, and if you want to know how it's done go onto YouTube.

The other 11 images (the first two or three showing the "during" stage) are amazing "hyper-realistic" 3D look-a-likes from the incredible artist Marcello Barenghi

These are lovely Michael. Thank you. These 3D pencil (and other) drawings with one or more edges of the paper cut and/or folded have become very popular recently. Some of them are truly astounding.

On the note of hyper realism here is my own contribution to the genre. I did this many years ago. (CS 2 I think). I think I may even have posted this here already a few years back. It is pure photoshop. No photographs or textures used. I literally broke the egg into a pan, set it beside my monitor and set out to 'paint' it just as a still life artist would. No plugins or extras. Just the basic paint and mask tools and little bit of noise and blur. That's all.

It was one of those 'wanted to see if I could' self challenges.

Thanks again for these Michael.

That's very good David

Have you got anymore offerings of that calibre, as I'm sure [b[we[/b] would all like to see them?

Sadly Michael this is the only attempt of its kind I ever made. I must confess I am quite proud of it. But I have nothing else similar to display of this kind of hyper real style. It was a one of a kind challenge to myself.

Whilst I am happy to attempt it in Photoshop I sure as hell wouldn't with a paint brush. Some of the hyper real artists leave me quite literally gasping.

Michael you sent me thinking. I have found just one more 'painted' image from long, long ago that I had completely forgotten until you prodded me.

This is not quite 100% original creation. The stained glass in both lanterns and the windows came from stock. Everything else, the room, the lanterns, the ball, magnifying glass and, of course, the lighting are 100% original created in Photoshop with just basic tools and filters.

This was done long before the egg which, because of its extreme simplicity, was far more challenging, but it is still pretty convincing.

Thank you Michael for sharing these. Great to see and draw inspiration from.

David, you egg is egg-cellent! It looks just like the real thing. In fact, I thought it was, until I read your burst. Beautifully done.

Thank you Michael. I think it fair to say that a lifetime of professional photography does give me a certain advantage. I have had the benefit of working with professional post production technicians and artists with skills far greater than I.

See my reply to Michael above.

From time to time I set self imposed challenges or exercises to stretch myself. Although the egg was done with a 'live' model which soon dries out and therefore only gave me one 'hit' at the main construction, the second was done over a long period of time far in excess of what I could devote to a challenge here.

Amazing work.

David, your images are wonderful. The egg is spot on for me.
