The Land Run Monument
On April 22, 1889, thousands of Americans rushed into unclaimed territory in what is now known as the Oklahoma Land Rush.

About two million acres of what the government called “Unassigned Lands” had recently been opened for settlement. These lands had previously been “Indian Territory” occupied by the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, and Seminole people.

The Oklahoma Land Rush drew about 50,000 people. At noon, they rushed into the Unassigned Lands on foot, on horseback, on bicycles, and in wagons. Some people actually cheated and hid in the Unassigned Lands before they officially opened for settlement—these were the “Sooners,” now a nickname for Oklahomans.

The Land Run Monument in downtown Oklahoma City contains nearly fifty individual sculptures by Paul Moore. Mr. Moore included himself as a driver of one of the wagons, a quite permanent 'selfie'. The sculptures are 1-1/2 times lifesize.

Thanks for looking at my infrared 'mudpies'. All images were shot with a 10-18mm lens.

Excellent work Loyd. I particularly like the composition of image #3; and,of course, as always, I love the rendition of the infrared skies.

As a matter of interest, what material are the sculptures made from? I suspect bronze but it would be interesting to know.

David - yes, the clouds were on my side that day. Obviously I lean a bit towards the dramatic.

Thanks Gordon. The sculptures are in bronze.

One of my favorite things about these images is the way the grass textures are rendered in IR.

Now look what you've done Loyd! You have encouraged that Steve Caplin fella to ask you to submit one of those for a Friday challenge from which we will have to colour in the horse and rider.

Very nice work by the way

Loyd, these are spectacular! I'm not sure what I love the most..the infrared photography, the incredible, action filled subjects or the wide angle perspective! I guess its a combination of all three that makes these images amazing.

Thanks Steve, Michael, and Anna...

Anna, the sculptor certainly deserves the 'lion's share'.

Beautiful work Loyd, brings back some memories as it has been a number of years since I dabbled in IR photography. Produces some stunning and oftentimes unpredictable results. Amazing subject matter and very nice composition.
