Flash Gordon Spaceship
As a kid I was brought up on the likes of Flash Gordon. Some years ago I searched for a 3D model but there was nothing suitable so I thought I should make my own ... but never got around to it until last week's Challenge when David did his piece over the Chrysler building. This morning I thought was the ideal time to create the spaceship. It was quite quick to make and here it is in all its kitschy glory.  _________________ Have you ever noticed that all the instruments designed to detect intelligent life are pointing away from the Earth? |

Yes. That's exactly the right flavour! What fun! On a purely technical note I can't help feeling that we should be seeing just a wee bit of the lower part of the right hand wheel. On the other hand it seems reasonable to suppose that you would have modelled this symmetrically in which case, if it's there, it must be hidden behind the body. Yes it was modelled symmetrically. I can easily lower the assembly but, given the shape of the fuselage, I doubt that you would see the starboard gear. Glad you like it and thanks for the inspiration to finally get around to creating it. _________________ Whatever you do in life do it with the enthusiasm of a 4-year old in a Batman suit. |

Looking at this again, and looking at the background vanishing points, the camera appears to be bang on the horizon line. If this is so then, looking at the fins and view ports, the spaceship (or rocket as it would have been then) seems to be slightly rolled towards us, which would, as you say, cause the starboard landing gear to be hidden behind the fuselage. Sorry Gordon to be whanging on about this. This link takes you to the original 1936 series ‘Planet of Peril’, Chapter 1. Granted it is black and white but it looks silvery metallic around the 9 minute 30 second mark when the spaceship is on the surface of Mongo. If it had been red it would have rendered much darker.
