3D Genius
Nothing strictly to do with Photoshop, but I thought you might like to check out my latest venture - 3D Genius, a website dedicated to 3D printing.

I'd be interested to see what you think.

Very interesting Steve. This technology is pretty scary, it could be huge in the future. Makes me think of Silicon Valley in the 70's, with all of the start-ups and computer hobbyists. The idea of one day being able to print circuits, even guns!?. Science fiction slowly becoming a reality..

Re: 3D Genius
I watched a tv special where ventriloquist Jeff Dunham used this technology to creat one of his dummys. Very interesting.....and I agree.......kinda scary.

Re: 3D Genius
Interesting indeed, but very time consuming (learnproces) to design an object within the program.

Very interesting and mind boggling Steve -- ironic the wife and I watched a TV show the other night where a guy printed a gun with which he shot two people before it exploded -- I thought the writers were pushing their luck -- now I see that it may in fact become a reality is truly amazing . I also see these printers are already out there -do you have any links as I am still in somewhat disbelief.

Re: 3D Genius
I wonder, will there ever be a time,
When a criminal,
Can print a gun and commit crime?
Will I have the means
To print off some jeans?
Will there be a time in my life,
When I can print a wife?
Or should I just stick to drawing things..

Re: 3D Genius
When Steve showed me the 3D hand he'd printed when we met at Xmas, I was stunned with the detail. If you have a look on You Tube and search for the London 3D Print Show 2012, you'll see some incredible objects, shoes, chairs etc. Worth a look.

Re: 3D Genius
I think 3D printing would be fun for something like Scalextric/ model railway. Creating the people and buildings etc. An expensive hobby!

Re: 3D Genius
How about a 3D scanner being used to create the 3D models before printing? http://www.goscan3d.com/en

Re: 3D Genius
3D scanners are a great idea. But at the moment they're hideously expensive - that one is "about the price of a compact car", which is all they'll tell you.

On the other hand, there's Autodesk's 123D Catch, which does a similar job for free.

That looks pretty amazing.. I got almost as excited as when I first discovered the Spot healing brush!
