Tall Ship Astrid goes aground (wrecked?)
Not my image just shared from a friend. I feel sad when Tall Ship Astrid ran aground off Kinsale (Ireland West Coast near where I lived for many years). All I know from my limited sailing experience its very dangerous sailing there with the winds, tides and navigation over some very dangerous rocks. All souls safe thank goodness thanks to Irish rescue. We just seem to have lost an Astrid......... She is NL as I understand Sjef ![]() |

Indeed Jota120, the motor got a power failure. The crew tried to hoist the sail but they were too late. Maybe they'd better used sail from the start as were it was build for as a freight ship, nearly a hundred years ago. Great boys those Irish rescuers! |

Good news Astrid Dutch Tall Ship is salvaged back from the Atlantic Cork Kinsale. I think a bit of work required, but masts in place and rigging sort of. http://www.breakingnews.ie/discover/video-the-wreck-of-the-astrid-is-salvaged-in-kinsale-co-cork-606485.html http://afloat.ie/sail/tall-ships/item/23241-tall-ship-astrid-back-from-the-deep-dutch-vessel-successfully-raised-in-kinsale http://www.independent.ie/irish-news/experts-probe-mystery-of-astrid-wreck-29569630.html |
