Bat
Very similar to us. See those fingers and ears. And they go so fast, maybe not me unless on Jota and too noisy.

Ah , speaking of noise . Funny thing , it wasn't but just 2 - 3 days ago I put in an issue of noise I've been having with my Nikon , (set on Auto ISO with a 18/55 lens ) ... images of distance (clouds , sunsets , trees etc.) are just too noisy . Wondered where I'd be going wrong . Oh , by the way , its a rather old D80 .

Oh , yes , bats CAN get a bit noisy as well

Setting your camera on Auto iso may well be the problem. The older digital cameras had a problem with noise starting to show itself around 800 iso unlike today's cameras which start to show it at much higher speed ratings thanks to much better processing 'in camera'. If your camera has automatically selected a higher speed then the processor may well not be able to remove the noise. Combining electronic noise with jpg artefacts can lead to a quite yucky picture after processing in Photoshop. I have an old D100 which I believe has the same sensor as the D80 but don't quote me on that. I have since converted for infrared work and it has always worked beautifully but it has never been above 200iso.

I would recommend that you manually set a low iso and see if that improves things.

Gordon

Re: Bat

Thank you Gordon for the head up . I kind of always suspected of the high ISO setting in older camera(s) , but however after following the suggestion of my local camera shop owner ( "a proffessional photographer " mind you) , that I set the D80 on Auto without thinking of course , what the camera's "idea" is for proper setting in auto or if it varies , I just left it at that and of course promptly forgot about it , only for my dismay to find out ALL of my latest shots for a customer , yes to be processed in photoshop were noisily ruined ... I tried everything , noise reduction , ACR , even tried to blur ... no go !

Anywayz , though it is impossible for me to go for another "shoot" , (had to do with sunsets in Erie PA) , but regardless , I will definitely , and had , removed the cam from Auto , now its just a matter of trying to figure out the "right" ISO setting (lower of course , as you suggested) .

Once again , thnx a Mill

Re: Bat
I'd set the ISO to 3200, really pushing it. Sun has set. Considering its very dark, fast speed setting with zoom in my opinion the 7D with IS lens really likes to have a go. Of course I make mistakes. If push it that far I expect some noise! You can resolve issues in PS especially if shoot in RAW which I did, but left it the way this time just some cropping. I like the atmospherics and relative motion...

Glad to be of help, Vahn. For the best quality images, of course, you should shoot in RAW. It's more time consuming with post processing but the images will be a major improvement on shooting jpgs. Jpgs have their place in this world but not when discussing top quality, I'm afraid.

For all 'normal' daylight imaging 200 iso should be perfectly adequate but obviously push it higher when needed.

Re: Bat

If at first you don't succeed , you probably tried it WHILE sky-diving , or maybe after ?

Thank you again .
