Does anybody remember THIS?
DO ANY OF YOU REMEMBER THIS?

This wonderful DOS game was released by SIERRA in 1993. THE INCREDIBLE MACHINE was intended to provide a game for young players which was both fun and educational. In it you are set delightfully silly problems and provided with a kit of equally silly parts from which you had to assemble Heath Robinson (Rube Goldberg) machines to solve the problems using the principles of very basic mechanics and physics. At any point you could make your machine run and watch it working (or not) and check its effectiveness.

It wasn't just fun and clever but somehow rather charming!

As a then 50 year old young boy I had more fun with this than I could possibly have imagined. I loved it and binge played it! Sierra later produced a version 2 with even more bizarre pieces of assembly kit.

I recently discovered that it is still available in its exact original form (complete with cheesy digital FX and music) in Mac OS and Windows wrappers. In my case it downloads as a Mac app with very simple install and play instructions. It runs perfectly on my Mac Studio with OS 15. (Make a note of the keyboard shortcuts when you open it so you can switch it to full screen, otherwise it's too small.)

So if you loved it like me and want a nostalgia bash go here, where you can download it free.

If you don't know it then try it! The first few problems are very simple and unexciting but it soon starts to get quite challenging and, if you persist, very challenging indeed.

Aaaaaaah ............ memories ........

Never heard of the game, but have always been fascinated by Rube Goldberg cartoons and the various 'real' contraptions that have been made over the years... fun stuff.

Never seen that one before! But it looks terrific.

Downloaded it, bypassed Apple telling me it might be full of malware, but the cursor on the screen doesn’t match the position of the cursor on my monitor…

That's odd it works perfectly on my twin screen setup. The secondary screen goes black but the primary works perfectly. I'll take a look when I have a moment.

Great thought-provoking game. I played the demo version.

Re: Does anybody remember THIS?
It manages to be completely silly and really quite serious at the same time.
