Re: Photoshop CC announced
I can look at my bookshelf and see, boxed versions of CS2, 3, 4, 5, and 6! And that suits me fine. I am always happy to upgrade if I choose. And that is one of the main criteria here it is my (the Loyal Customer) choice. Most importantly I always have and own the product...its on my shelf. The new CC is a total rip off! I am so disappointed with Adobe that they can treat their loyal customer base this way. If I chose to subscribe, I can pay a monthly fee for the rest of my life but I will never own the product! How can this be right? Moreover, if I drop out there is no guarantee that the files I have created on the CC will be workable on my old CS6 version. Apparently, a number of software houses are doing a similar thing. It appears that Autodesk (Cad) do it. However, with the Autodesk, if one should stop subscribing at any time, you are left with the last version you subscribed to on your desktop. This is fine, if Adobe said they would do this, I would more than likely subscribe, but to pay for something that I will never own is not right! Moreover, they can can increase the subscription price every year if they chose (which they no doubt will) until it the monthly cost become untenable, so then what happens? One stops paying because it's no longer financially viable and once again you are left with nothing! No doubt LightRoom will be next. And finally, this will not stop the hackers and the thieves, they are probable working on some code as we speak to enable the unscrupulous to beat the system. I for one will NOT be subscribing and will be working my version CS6 to death. _________________ Mark Goodwin If you do what you have always done, you'll get what you've always got! |

I believe that's exactly what it means. Since you already own the Master Collection of CS3, it means you can get Photoshop CC for $9.99 a month. Sounds like a good deal. |

Re: Photoshop CC announced
This is probably orthogonal to main discussion, I gave my thoughts before. (You got my gist). One pain I have is running PS on both PC desktop and Mac laptop. I was on the phone for hours with Adobe. They agreed to change my PC CS5 licence to Mac, but I would have to deactivate PC version. Since I do most of my PS on PC desktop, I decided not to. To get around the problem I created a Windows partition on Mac, bought a new Windows 7 licence and activated my CS5 licence on there. You are allowed two active instances. (ALL LEGAL) So my question is can I run same subscription CC on my MacBook Pro and my Windows 7 Desktop. I know we are limited to two instances, fine, but I want to use both platforms, one for when travel other when at home/office? How does this work with CC? |

With CC they still allow you to install on 2 computers but you are allowed both PC and Mac, just like you can for Ligthroom. _________________ Perfect confidence is granted to the less talented as a consolation prize. |

Interesting debate. I suppose it all depends whether PS makes you a living, or how precious you are about having all the latest features. For me, PS is just a hobby and one that I've limited time for these days, so probably not worth the cost, as CS5 is fine for what I do. There is great work displayed here by artists, Luis for example, where everything is produced using PS7, so having the latest isn't always necessary. That said, the latest enhancements do make many of the manual chores easier, but sometimes the effort is part of the fun. Without deadlines to meet, I'll stay with what I have. Nick |

Re: Photoshop CC announced
The CC may be attractive to design firms that use the entire suite. However, I only use PS. They want me to pay $240 a year for CC. But even If I had upgraded to every new version that would have cost $200 every 18 months. I don't buy every new version. I skipped CS4 and went to 5. So this new plan does not do me any favors financially. AND Adobe will certainly raise their prices. I am seriously considering upgrading to PSCS6 and squeezing as much use out of it as long as possible. (one of my Macs still is happily running CS3) |

Tom, that is the concern expressed in many forums. I like the idea about the updates though. No more 2 years waiting for updates sounds very nice, although we“ll just have to wait and see how "regular" they come. In that sense it is true that we get to choose wether we upgrade or not. And honestly that is the ONLY good thing I can see about this CC concept. |

Re: Photoshop CC announced
Tom, at another place in Steve's forum I posted a jpeg from the following Photoshop-document: System: PC - Intel i5 File size: 8000 x 5344 px - 713 Mb Number of layers: 656 To load the file in CS5 - 64 bits: 12 seconds Loading the file in CS6 - 64 bits: 295 seconds! Saving from CS5 - 64 bits: 9 seconds Saving from CS6 - 64 bits: 80 seconds A friend at my computer club has about the same system (motherboard, processor, memory and videocard) as I have and she has upgraded to CS6. It seems CS6 has a different way of reading Layers than CS5. Also zooming in is different (jerky). CS5 is much swifter on this (when dealing with large documents). CS6 may start up a bit faster, I'll stick to my CS5 Extended. It's more stable too! BigVern asked in the same post: "...Anyone know why the image takes such a ridiculously long time to load and save in CS6 compared to CS5 (Sjef's stats)?" No answer yet. |

Re: Photoshop CC announced
I have the full Production Premium Creative Suite CS6 upgraded from CS5.5 overall it's been pretty pricey buying the complete suite and limited in the sense that if say I wanted to do web-design in Dreamweaver rather than working in After Effect on movie clips I would be stumped as the Production Premium is limited to just that Movie and Image production not web design. At first I was shocked by the move to Creative Cloud but if you can get the full access to all the Adobe software as part of the subscription then what a saving in money. I think the CS6 upgrade was about £520 the yearly plan at £46.88 per month works out £562.56 per year which considering this is all of Adobe's desktop software is a really good price. I might hold off for a bit though doesn't seem a long time since I forked out for the CS6 upgrade and as I'm only an amateur it's an expensive hobby. But i suppose that's the beauty of the CC option you can opt in or out as and when you can afford it. In the meanwhile I'm sure my CS6 suite will continue working and I can opt in later. However, I do share the concerns that Mark and Tom have raised and a monthly price plan can be quite costly overall and there is the very real issue of never owning the software, although I'm sure Adobe are quick to point out that even having the complete Creative Suite at home on your disc is not ownership of the software and is merely a license to use the software, however having the discs and being able to own the work you have done using the software is vitally important to Intellectual Copyright as Mark said if you create files within CC they may not be usable once your CC subscription has ended. |

Re: Photoshop CC announced
Update: Just seen that I can get full access to all the best Adobe software for £17.58 per month as a CS6 registered owner so signed up for just a few quid a week this a real bargain. And thanks Steve. I've missed this place, I might hang around a bit |

Re: Photoshop CC announced
Hi Becky Good to see you back, hope you are keeping well. I have just signed up for Photoshop only under £6.00 a month for the first year. Lets just hope they don't get too greedy after that. I will keep my CS6 safe in the meantime. One great change in CC is that you can use Camera Raw on individual layers as a filter direct from Photoshop. _________________ Perfect confidence is granted to the less talented as a consolation prize. |
