£7.14 every month for something I will never own! Sounds like a brilliant Marketing idea. Not for me I'm afraid I like to see my software in a box, on a shelf, where I can get it anytime I want. Once I have paid for it, it's mine. Just like my camera, car, or anything else that I as consumer pay for. If Adobe were prepared to leave you with latest version up until the time you stop paying, I would join without hesitation. But to be left with nothing when I stop paying.....? Sorry but not for me. Apologies to Steve as I know he has a living to make and he doesn't have much option, much like other Adobe trainers and the like. _________________ Mark Goodwin If you do what you have always done, you'll get what you've always got! |

True, but it's a lot better than paying that for 12 month with no idea of what it will cost in the future. This is for both Photoshop and Lightroom, and is a set price. _________________ Perfect confidence is granted to the less talented as a consolation prize. |

Sounds tempting but not sure if there enough new features in CC to make it worthwhile. |

Phone contract? Electricity bill? TV licence? Satellite, cable, broadband contracts? The point is, software is a very different model from hardware. And that monthly fee means you get the latest updates as soon as they're released. I'm not convinced Adobe has got it right, but this new move to a much lower price does seem to show a willingness to compromise. |

Re: Good News from Adobe
Ok, some good examples I hadn't thought about there Steve. However, as you say software is different, and for me at least, one of the reasons that it is different is that in the past I have always had a 'hardware' version, in as much as I had a tangible box and CD, that I could see and touch and re load to my computer if need be. A bit like the valid point you made about backing up the hard drive recently. 'No need to back up applications as you can always re-load these". This would not be the case if you had - for some reason - ceased your monthly subscription. Not knowing what the future holds could mean a number of things. 1. Adobe can do what they like as far as future payments are concerned AND what you will get in the future for said payment. 2. There could well come a time when the subscriber falls on hard times and can no longer afford the monthly fee, but would still like to continue to use the software. I think this second point is more valid if the subscriber uses the software to earn their living. Anyway....that's my penneth, it's not a rant as such as I am too old to worry too much! . I wish you continued success and whatever Adobe does, I will still be a fan of you and your books. Best wishes _________________ Mark Goodwin If you do what you have always done, you'll get what you've always got! |

Mark, All you say is true, of course. But then what about system upgrades, which mean old versions of the software are no longer useable? Plus, Photoshop does actually get better with each new version. Still, point taken. I'm not wholly in favour of Adobe's new approach, but I suppose they felt they had to do something to counteract piracy. |
