Anyone out there have an iPad?
So here's the thing. A couple of years ago I had the idea for a new series of Photoshop books. Each book would be around 60 pages, and would cover a very specific subject in detail: perspective, layer styles, shapes, blend modes, and so on. The idea is that each book would go into the sort of depth there wouldn't be room for in a regular chapter of a bigger book, but which would be shorter than a standard full-length book. To kick the series off I wrote Pocket Photoshop: Smart Objects, while I was negotiating with the publishers. But then they came back and said Marketing couldn't find any way to sell a book that small, and dropped the project. Well, now I've resurrected it, and I've produced the first volume in the series as an iBook, which can be read by anyone with an iPad - and, if you have a Mac, by anyone running the latest OS X, Mavericks, which includes iBooks for the first time. Anyone feel like reading through the new book? I'd be most grateful for your opinions, before I go ahead and publish it. Drop me an email or reply here if you're interested. |

Is it only compatible with Apple products Steve? I realise this is the preferred platform for people into design & publishing. However, there are many of us which came into this from other businesses. Mine being photography (film) then into Photoshop because of the move to digital but were already using a PC for their self employed business, bookkeeping & such like. The expense & not to mention the single mouse button back then was too much to contemplate so I stuck with, sorry to swear, Windows. So no Apple products in my world...

I understand what you're saying, yes. Because of the difficulty of developing workable eBooks for multiple platforms, I've started off just creating this one for the iPad and, now, for Macs. If there's any interest I'll look at making an Android version as well. But I'm just dipping my toe into the water here, and I wanted to make sure it wasn't shark-infested first! |

And have you upgraded to OS X Mavericks in the last couple of days? You'll need that to run iBooks on your Mac. |

Sounds like a great idea Steve. I haven't updated to Mavericks on anything as yet and am a little scared if the truth be known! Anyone having any probs with PS and Mavericks yet? Oh by the way, beside my rant recently on PS CC, since the offer of £8.00 something a month (apparently for life) I have joined!

Well I seem to be having issues downloading and upgrading Mac OS X to Mavericks. It cannot see iBooks. I'll try another day, too busy. |

Hi Haven't noted a lot of difference yet, Activity monitor looks quite different. It's a big download, 5GB, I gather if you don't hit the install button straight away you can find the download file and then use on an other computer. Wish I had heard that advice before I installed. When it had finished installing I got a messages saying; Install failed, faulty disk, Erase Disk and start again. It wasn't a big problem as I don't have anything on my laptop that can't be replaced, but it sounded rather difficult, and as there was still a button saying 'install' I decided to opt for that, Nothing to loose. This time it installed fine. Haven't done a lot on the Mac since, but no problems so far. Good Luck _________________ Perfect confidence is granted to the less talented as a consolation prize. |
