In memoriam: Trevor Pirt

Trevor Pirt

It is with immense shock and sadness that I have to report the death of Trevor Pirt, known to us here as Jota120. He passed away on 21st February after succumbing to the cirrhosis of the liver that had plagued him for four years. His funeral is to be held in Coventry on 4th March.

Trevor was a much loved and highly valued member of the Forum. His quirky, imaginative artwork was always entertaining, always intriguing, and frequently baffling: he had a taste for the surreal, for the avant-garde, always participating the Friday Challenge from a fresh and unexpected angle.

Trevor was very much a part of the HotChiPs community, always present at our meet-ups. We enjoyed lunch with Trevor at our Christmas meet in December, and had no idea it was to be the last time we'd ever see him. It was Trevor who took on the task of documenting our infrequent meet-ups; while he took many pictures of the rest of us, he rarely appeared in them himself.

To say Trevor will be sadly missed is a gross understatement. He leaves a hole in the Forum that it will be impossible to fill.

Oh this is terrible news. Trevor was a lot of things but loyalty was his greatest gift. I will miss him terribly. Mrs Pirt, Katrina and Annelise please accept my utmost heartfelt condolences. May you all find comfort in each other during this time. Anna

The below excerpt of Trevor's final words, in an email, to me a few weeks ago. I didn't think much of it at the time, but now I realise he was saying goodbye. I will miss you very very much Trevor. Goodbye my friend.

Relax and take it easy. Let your mind wonder. Do nothing. As Lao Tzu notices (my words) the power of nothing it wont exist for long, the void will be filled. I guess we might worry about what...
"Hence a gusty wind cannot last all morning, and a sudden downpour cannot last all day. Who is it that produces these? Heaven and earth. If even heaven and earth cannot go on for ever, much less can man. That is why one follows the way." Circa 600 BC

Lots of Love Trevor xoxoxoxoxoxoXoxoxoxoxoxox

It is really with great sadness that I hear this news. Trevor was a well loved member of the forum with his quirky submissions and his ‘take’ on life, particularly with his oriental connections. He would leave us both bemused and amused. He will be missed and there is no one that can take his place.

Fare thee well Trevor as you pass on to the next great journey.

This is terrible news. He seemed in good form when we saw him before Christmas.

I shall miss his offbeat (and sometimes obscure) philosophical ramblings that often accompanied his images and comments. A most unusual man. The world needs eccentrics and one offs so badly. How sad to be losing one.

My sympathies go out to his family.

This is terribly sad news and I'd never have believed that such an apparently strong man was so ill. Trevor always struck me as being totally indestructible with his varied worldwide activities, which makes his passing so shocking. We will miss you Trevor and your wonderful work and humour. My thoughts are with his family

I am shocked at the news. I always looked forward to meeting him knowing that if I made it to London, he would come to the meet-up. I'm glad I got a chance to have nice conversations with him via the meetups. I will very much miss him and his artwork.

I am really sorry to hear this. Trevor was a one off, frequently confusing , in conversation and also in his challenges, but always kind. I hope I don’t sound crass; but I was in church the day after Trevor died and there were butterflies flying around. I now like to think it was his spirit celebrating my wedding.
I will miss you Trevor

Such sad news, I only met Trevor once at a HOTCHIPS lunch when I visited London in 2013. He certainly made an impression.
I have dug up a couple of photos from that day.

Trevor's friend, Ken, sent through some photos of Trevor's funeral. As sad it was seeing these photos, one in particular brought a smile to my face..Going out in true Trevor style!!

I am so sorry to read this - I cannot believe I missed it - Trevor was definitely a one off and I am glad that there were friends there to send him off

I was actually pleased to see that you had missed the original post as it gave me the opportunity to remember that wonderful image of Trevor’s send off again. I showed it to my wife and she remarked about what a terrific bunch of friends he had to do that for him.

I do miss his wacky contributions.
