Very nice text Frank, although that HTCIP book looks wrong , was this done in CS6?

Re: Banner designs
Thanks Artwell -- yes it was done in CS 6 but the book cover was not 3d but simply meant to be a poster. I had attempted 3d on it to make it a book but I had rendering problems (very poor quality).

Re: Banner designs
Tried it again in CS 6 (3D) as a book - some detail loss.

Re: Banner designs
That second one is much better, Frank. Did you know, though, that you can merge several 3D layers together and treat them all as a single object? That would help with your shadow directions!

Re: Banner designs
Yes Steve , I too like the second version better, all 3D layers in the scene are merged as a single object with one infinite light and one spotlight on the book cover (with the spotlights shadows turned off). I also disabled the shadows in the environment. Reflections are at 70% and shadows at 60%.

Re: Banner designs
Mariner - I like the fly, but the rainbow gradient through the word 'Photoshop' looks cheap. Are you able to rework it without this gradient? Perhaps a flat colour, or a 3D bevel effect instead?

Lorenzo - interesting lettering and metallic effect, but can you make the proportions the same as the existing banner? 150 high x 750 wide.

Re: Banner designs
Steve, yes it is cheap, but I sort of lost heart after seeing Frank's superb effort. Well done Frank. Will rework.

Re: Banner designs
Lorenzo - thanks for squeezing the banner up. It's now very tight on the edges, though, with big gaps between the words; it all looks very cramped. It would be better if you could reduce the text somewhat and centre it, so it has room to breathe.

Would you mind having one more go?

Re: Banner designs
Still playing in 3D -- approx 6 lights used in this one - 5 in 3D and one from the filter menu on the background - find it very tricky placing point lights
